Where Are They Now?

A lot of players have come and gone over the years, here a few from recent times and what they are up to now.

Simon Sheeran – Played for the Green back in the mid 1990s, had a fairly impressive goal scoring record and was second team players player of the year in 1995. Since leaving the Green “Old Fluffy Ears” hasn’t looked back, banging in the goals for Wisdom Sports, and has become their all time top scorer. He has hinted at a return to the Green (normally after a couple of Smirnoff Ice), but we won’t hold our breath.

Ben Djamaluddin – Jabba has yo-yoed between the Green and Wisdom Sports a few times over the years. Quick and fairly solid central defender who certainly likes a tackle, as i'm sure many an opposing striker will testify also been known to give the odd penalty away in his time. Jabba rejoined the Green for the backend of last season but we couldnt convince him to sign this season and he has joined Old Varndenians.

Jabba
Alex Wackett – ‘Wackbot 3000’ was a midfield sensation for the first team during the 2002/03 season. He gave up football to train for the London Marathon the next year and we certainly missed his energy in the middle of the park. Now living in London he occasionally turns out for Crown & Anchor 7ths in the Croydon Gentlemens Sunday League.

Tommy Brown - Joined from Wisdom Sports a few years ago, played for our All Star Second Team that won Division 7 in the 2003/04 season, before going back to Wisdoms the following season. Returned to the Green again for 2 seasons and played for the First Team. Wings is now back at Wisdoms running the show in centre midfield. We will certainly miss his flare, Wonder Woman knickers and shower habits that frightended the younger players.
Brown Wings
Dave Kateley - Dave was one of the most consistent performers for the First Team over the past few seasons. He was player of the year in the 2004/05 season and was one of the main reasons why we managed to avoid relegation that season. He was named captain the following year and again showed his class. Dave now lives in Heathfield and is playing for Heathfield Hotspurs in the Hill Billy League.

Matt Kingston – Arguably one of the best players to pull on a Green shirt in recent years. Often turned up on a Saturday with a stinking hangover but still delivered on the pitch. One of his finest moments was a spectacular 30 yard volley at Victoria Park against Heath Pilgrims a few years back. His last game for the Green was at the start of the 2003/04 season, despite many a drunken promise that he would return we haven’t seen him since.

Ben Wanless – ‘Wanno’ played in the reserve team during their triumphant 2003/04 campaign. A solid central midfielder he claimed that he was “good enough to play in any County League side” the jury is certainly out on that one. Can often be found in Topman in Oxford Street, humming Artic Monkeys tunes whilst browsing the skinny jeans.

Adie Moore – Versatile first team midfielder who also played at the back. Moved to Canada a couple of years ago with his girlfriend where he does a lot of snow boarding and he is still playing football in the Vancouver Metro Soccer League Div 2 for Yaletown Football Club, no doubt his no nonsence style has ruffled a few feathers!

Other recent departures have been Gavin McIntosh and Dave Forde who have both joined Burgess Hill Albion. Macca was a loyal servant to the Green and had been at the club for about 8 seasons scoring some spectacular goals down the years. Perhaps we will see them again soon if Albion can ever get promoted.
